Artist Lucia Errity will show her work in an exhibition entitled ‘Art and Heart Collide’ at Clonakilty Community Arts Centre in February.
Originally from Dublin, Lucia is a fulltime, self-taught artist who has been painting since 1990. She has worked creatively for many years with people who have intellectual disabilities. Lucia’s belief in the therapeutic potential of creative expression led to her becoming a Creative Arts Therapist in 2018, when she graduated from NUI, Maynooth, with an MA in Dramatherapy.
Lucia has a passion for theatre and, as a former member of a theatre production company, has written and directed a number of plays. In 2015 she produced a play (by another playwright), which ran for a week in the ‘Boys School’ at Smock Alley Theatre.
A prolific artist, her work is exhibited on an ongoing basis in her gallery, the Harvest Gallery, in Bellewstown, Co. Meath. This exhibition is Lucia’s seventh solo exhibition.
Acrylics are her current medium of choice, as she loves their flexibility and how quickly they dry. She draws inspiration from the rolling hills of Bellewstown, the sea, nature, music and dance. Working with zest and spontaneity, Lucia engages in her art with a courage and abandon that is palpable in the images she creates.
As a student of CIT Cork, Lucia is currently studying ‘The Principles of Art Therapy’.
The exhibition opening is on Friday, February 8 at 7pm. All are welcome.
