Director Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre

Continuing until 10 April at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre are ‘The Hawk and the House’ by Anne Ffrench and Julia Pallone and ‘Light Keepers’ by Geraldine O’Sullivan, two exciting exhibitions by artists who live in Cork County.

As part of Cork Lifelong Learning Festival 2019, Anne and Julia will present an Artists’ Talk in the Gallery on Wednesday, April 10 at 12-noon. The talk is free of charge and no booking is required.

Bookings are still being taken for ‘Princesses can be Pirates’, an energetic dance performance for children at Skibbereen Town Hall on Thursday 4 April, which explores gender and playfully questions what is considered ‘typical’ behaviour for girls and boys.

We are very pleased to welcome Jessie Kennedy and Billy Flaherty of The Coffee Shop to Uillinn. As described by John and Sally McKenna, Jessie and Billy are at the centre of West Cork’s food culture by creating beautiful dishes, which have flair, vibrancy and imagination. ‘At the core of the offer is Billy’s wonderful baking – his sausage rolls are ace, his pasties are to die for; his flourless chocolate cake is textbook – but it’s not just the baking that is top-notch: the Coffee Shop chowder is a classic, and the signature pizzas draw in locals from miles around on weekend evenings.’ The Coffee Shop at Uillinn is open from Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm with weekend spelt pizzas from 4pm to 8.30pm every Friday and Saturday night. Our thanks also to Siobhán O’Callaghan and Anthony Boyle of Kalbos who established the reputation of top-class food at Uillinn and which we are sure will continue with The Coffee Shop.

We are delighted to present the West Cork Arts Centre Members’ and Friends’ Exhibition, which is opening on Friday April 19 at 6pm. Comprising over 300 paintings, sculpture, drawing, photographs, textiles and prints, this exhibition is an excellent opportunity to see work by established and emerging West Cork artists. It is a wonderful showcase of the artistic talent of West Cork and a great opportunity for art lovers to find something special to take home, or to purchase that special gift.

Rusty Frog Youth Theatre is proud to present a production of ‘Deano’ – an urban mystery. Performances will take place on Thursday, April 25 and Friday April 26. Booking is essential.

And finally, join Artist in Residence Mary Sullivan on Thursday, April 25 at 11.30am for a cup of tea and a chat about what she has been working on during her residency at Uillinn.

For further information and bookings contact Uillinn on 028 22090 and info@westcorkartscentre.com and keep an eye on our web, facebook and twitter for latest updates on all our programmes.
