Lisheens House is coming to Clonakilty

Lisheens House is spreading its wings. The Skibbereen based charity is opening their second used furniture shop in McCurtain Hill, Clonakilty on October 10. This new shop, located above the Garda station, will have over 5000 square feet of quality used furniture for sale.

Bantry woman, Noreen Murphy, who lost her husband to suicide in 2007, founded the Skibbereen charity in 2014. Noreen witnessed for herself the lack of affordable and accessible services, not just for her husband during his battle with depression but also for his family during this time and after his death.

It is fitting that the new Clonakilty shop will open on Thursday, October 10, World Mental Health Day and they will also launch their new logo, tagline and new website.

Noreen explains, “We have been in existence for the past five years and it has been a huge learning curve. From day one, we realised the value of feedback from both our service users and the general public. We listened and learned to all the feedback and we started planning this rebrand over twelve months ago. We are delighted with the outcome as we think it will simplify our message and help us to reach more people. We want as many people as possible to realise who we are, what we offer and how we can help.”

“The proceeds from the new shop in Clonakilty will be vital in enabling us to grow and expand the services we provide to communities throughout West Cork and beyond.”

As the new Lisheens House tagline says: ‘Community Mental Health Matters’

The charity is continually looking to grow as the demand for their free counseling training and support for those in mental health crisis has increased significantly in the last year. With the new shop and their existing shop in Skibbereen beside their Wellness Centre, Noreen is planning to help many more people who are in difficulty.

As they receive no state funding they are reliant on fundraising and the resale of donated household items and furniture to fund their services. Every piece of furniture donated contributes to the provision of services to those who are in need of training, counseling, advice or just somewhere to drop in and have a chat. For many who are looking for a budget option when it comes to furniture, this new shop will open up a whole new choice for anyone looking to do up their home. Every part of the process involves people benefitting.

“We are always looking for donations of furniture and other household items,” Noreen explains. “We collect not only in West Cork but throughout Cork City and County. Not only can we help the environment by reusing and recycling something unwanted, we can also use those proceeds to help change someone’s life.”

If you wish to donate any suitable furniture or household items, please call Lisheens House on 086 4066348. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for all upcoming announcements and be sure to drop in to their new shop (up past the Garda Station) on McCurtain Hill, Eircode P85KN80, in Clonakilty from October 10 or you can contact the new shop directly on 087 7606226.
